Sperling wins CVGA River Falls event

Mark Sperling birdied the first hole of a playoff to defeat home-clubber Dave Reese
and win the Chippewa Valley Golf Association's River Falls Open Sunday at the River
Falls Golf Club.

Sperling, of Lakeville, Minn., and Reese, the 67-year-old president of the club,
tied for first place after 18 holes with rounds of one-over par 73 before Sperling
made his winning birdie.

The win was the second this season on the CVGA tour for Sperling and his 35th in
more than 30 years of playing CVGA events. His first win came in 1981 at the
Whitehall Open.

Erik Hutchinson, Joel T. Johnson, Joe Larson, Eric Rolland, Brian Seiwert and Joe
Stansberry all shot two-over par 74 to finish in a six-way tie for third place.
David Blue came in one stoke back of that bunch at 75 to take ninth place, and John
Sexton shot 76 to place tenth.

The CVGA caps off its 2007 schedule with the Tournament of Champions at Hillcrest
Country Club in Altoona Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-9.
